The Chemical domain addresses both deliberate chemical warfare agent (CWA) threats and the broader hazard posed by toxic industrial chemicals (TIC) and toxic industrial materials (TIM). Our instructors bring decades of arms control consultancy and operational CBRN experience in this domain.

Training covers recognition of chemical agent indicators, agent classification and properties, personal protective equipment selection, detection and identification technologies, decontamination techniques, medical countermeasures, and post-exposure procedures. At Advanced and Specialised levels, training incorporates live-agent exposure scenarios at certified facilities.

Biological Domain

The Biological domain spans naturally occurring disease outbreaks, deliberate biological agent release, and the public health system interface critical to effective biodefence. MSB brings specialist depth in public health and biodefence, including knowledge of dual-use biological materials and verification challenges.

Training covers biological agent classification, biosafety levels and laboratory protocols, personal protective measures, outbreak recognition and response procedures, decontamination, medical countermeasures, and coordination with public health authorities. The intersection of civilian public health systems and professional CBRN response is a specific area of MSB instruction.

Radiological Domain

The Radiological domain addresses threats from radiological dispersal devices (RDDs), radiological exposure scenarios, and incidents involving radioactive materials outside nuclear weapon contexts. Training covers both the technical and command dimensions of radiological emergency response.

Training covers radiation physics fundamentals, detection and survey techniques, dose assessment and dose rate measurement, radiological contamination control, emergency response procedures, and protective actions for responders. At advanced levels, training includes identification system operation and integration into emergency operations centres.

Nuclear Domain

The Nuclear domain covers nuclear facility safety and emergency preparedness, improvised nuclear device (IND) considerations, post-detonation operational environments, and the policy context that shapes response obligations. MSB expertise spans arms control, non-proliferation, and the intersection of nuclear policy with operational response doctrine.

Training covers nuclear weapon effects, post-detonation environments and hazard zones, nuclear facility emergency response procedures, protective action frameworks, and nuclear incident command structures. At senior levels, training addresses strategic communication and policy coordination during nuclear events.

Hazardous Materials (HazMat)

MSB training extends beyond military CBRN threat contexts into the civilian hazardous materials environment — the domain of industrial accidents, transportation incidents, and deliberate use of toxic industrial chemicals.

HazMat training covers identification of hazardous materials by placard, label, and UN number; Emergency Response Guidebook application; ICS/HazMat command integration; decontamination of victims and responders; and coordination with industrial and public health authorities. This domain is particularly relevant for civil defence, fire services, emergency medical services, and government emergency management functions.
